Synopsis

UTSAV is classical tale of love and romance set against a background of passion, intrigue and political revolution. It is a story of a passionate love between Vasantsena (Rekha), a beautiful and renowned courtesan of Ujjain and Charudatt (Shekhar Suman) a handsome and impoverished Brahmin youth. Intrigue abounds and is prolific on all levels, resulting in much confusion and calamities. The brother-in-law of the king Samsthanak (Shashi Kapoor) a disreputable character -mean and unscrupulous is in hot pursuit of Vasantsena. On one hand Aryak (Kunal Kapoor), a political revolutionary, plots to depose the king on the other Vatsyayan (Amjad Khan), compiles his masterpiece on sexology - the "KAMA SUTRA". The plots thicken and come to a climax, when Charudatt is accused of murder and sentenced to die. Rescue comes in the nick of time and he is saved. But there remains the choice between the two women in his life - his wife (ANURADHA) and Vasantsena, who both love him. This happy tale has poignant ending.
